BIENNIAL PROGRAM
BIENNIAL PROGRAM OF NCOSWA
THEME: To Build Bridges with other Nigerians and Nigerian Organizations. VISION: Think globally and Act locally to Impact the Community. To this end, we must pursue the ideas possible; including those developed by seasonal professionals all over the globe, and apply them to our individual and collective endeavors in our local community and residence. MISSION STATEMENT: We must raise consciousness of all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria toward the need for reconstruction and peaceful coexistence in the community. As Nigerians abroad, we must strive to showcase our enviable talents in a more positive light. We must continue to make genuine positive contributions to our host States, which are discernible through our participation in various community activities. Goals and Objectives The goals/objectives envisioned will include, but are not limited to:
a) Mutual respect for every citizen of Nigeria b) Support for the membership c) Mentorship and network connection ¨ ¨ Mount a vigorous effort toward national and international fund raising drives for specific projects to be identified by the organization, such as: a) Scholarship awards/endowment funds at local universities in Nigeria and abroad b) Medical equipment and accessories for health care clinics and hospitals including teaching hospitals in Nigeria. c) Funding for the proposed Nigerian House. PURPSOSE To work toward attaining the stated goals and objectives through the following avenues in no particular order: 1. To develop partnerships with others by constituting focus groups to brainstorm for ideas on various issues of import 2. Biennial Strategic Planning. 3. Delegation to Nigerian Leadership in Nigeria and/or its representatives in the United State, to commence talks on positive attitudes toward nation building and the common well being of the citizenry. 4. Building a better image of Nigeria and Nigerians through the United States. 5. Inculcate in every Nigerian to exhibit a sense of respect/regard for law and order. 6. Establish a Nigerian Cultural and Civic Center in Portland 7. Establish communication linkages with Nigerians throughout the United States. 8. Grassroots effort must be made to reach out/connect with the local chapters of BIG, NAACP and the Urban League, to play significant roles that will give NCOSWA a foothold in the political, social, and economic activities of these predominantly black organizations.
To this end, the Standing Committees will go through a major overhaul, to become more focused in their respective functions/activities for which they were formed. Streamling of membership on the Committees becomes very crucial/critical in such an exercise. We must, therefore, enlist the services of members with the requisite fit and interest, coupled with the required dedication and commitment to community service.
NCOSWA BIENNIAL COMMITTEES* 1. 1. COMPLAINT, MEDIATION & CONCILIATION COMMITTEE (CMCC) Purpose and Task: To provide a forum where disputes can be resolved among members in a professional and civilized manner. The Committee will have theresponsibility for investigating any complaints brought by the membership and seek resolutions of such disputes through mediation. Any committee member named in a complaint/dispute must not be a participant in the Committee’s deliberations on the particular case, to ensure neutrality and credibility of the Committee’s work, as well as impartiality and integrity of the final report submitted to the House. COMMUNITY SUMMER PICNIC COMMITTEE (CSPC) Purpose and Task: To serve as a forum for bringing our families together and to network with other Nigerians and friends of Nigeria in the community. The Committee wil develop picnic plans for approval by the House, and subsequently take the leadership for implementing program tasks. 3. COMMUNITY RELATIONS & SERVICES COMMITTEE (CRSC) Purpose and Task: To fulfill NCOSWA’s Theme, Vision, and Mission Statement, the CRSC will provide adequate exposure to larger Nigerian and American Communities, with the aim of projecting a positive image and to foster a peaceful coexistence in the community. The Committee will develop and recommend strategies for achieving this objective, as well as take the leadership in implementing program tasks, as approved by the House. 4. BUDGET & FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY COMMITTEE (BFRC) Purpose and Task: To prepare the biennial budget of the organization, and to organize other fiscal activities, including fund-raising for various capital and recurrent projects. The Committee will play the necessary leadership role in implementing program tasks, including disbursement of funds. However, all projects, as well as capital and recurrent expenditures, must be approved by the House. MEMBERSHIP: Gbolade Sosanya (Chair) Chinenye Mba Savior Essien Cosmus Nwerem
5. BANQUET PLANNING COMMITTEE AND SPECIAL EVENTS (BPSE) Purpose and Tasks: To plan and implement a banquet that will showcase the talents and cultural heritage of Nigeria in a positive light. The committee will play the necessary leadership roles in developing other Special Events as approved by the House. MEMBERSHIP: John Ette (Chair) Thompson Essien Gerry Uba Patrick Dinyan 6. SERVICE RECOGNITION AND AWARD COMMITTEE (SRAC) Purpose and Task: Through a nomination of process sanctioned by the House, SRAC will formulate a program of activities aimed at recognizing organization members and other eminent members of the community at large, for their individual and group achievements/accomplishments through volunteer work and other forms of service delivery in the community. SRAC will also develop other programs of repute to facilitate scholarship awards in the form of financial assistance to students who are already enrolled or about to be enrolled in an academic field of study at any institution of higher learning, both in Nigeria and abroad. It is the Committee’s responsibility to recommend all necessary plans of action it deems necessary for accomplishing these objectives annually to the House for the consideration and approval.

CHILDREN, YOUTH, WOMEN, ELDERLY AFFAIRS (CYWE) Purpose and Tasks: To initiate, plan and implement programs that will promote the welfare of children, youths, women and the elderly in our community. The committee will recommend to the House, ways and means of grooming future leaders of the next generation and increasing women membership. MEMBERSHIP: Yetunde Lanirun (Chair) Loretta Mabinton Vitalis Ogbeama Patrick Nekekpemi *The President will serve as ex-officio member on each Committee and attend meetings, as well as participate in Committee activities whenever necessary/feasible.
